All Hymoto Turbines are direct drive turbine using a permanent magnet. The alternative system is to use a gear box between the blades and the rotor
There are many advantages of a low speed direct drive turbine
* Bearings last much longer because of low rotation speed
* Avoids gearbox noise and the turbine is much quieter
* Gearboxes require regular maintenance – often as frequently as greasing every 3 months
The reason that some turbines have a gear box is to spin the rotor (the magnets) faster within the copper windings. By spinning the rotor faster it is possible to use less copper - and hence save money.

Bearings
The bearings are over sized for extra long life and specified according to the calculations of axial and radial loads. The front bearing which is exposed to the weather incorporates both a sealed bearing and an additional grease chamber for long life
Gear Mechanism
The gear mechanism for furling the turbine into and out of the wind uses a sealed integrated mechanism proven with many years use in demanding applications such as excavators and cherry pickers.
Balanced Rotor
The most important thing for the long life of a turbine is that everything is in perfect balance so as to reduce stress and vibration
The generator used in our turbines has a rotor which is perfectly balanced to 900 RPM before assembly of the turbine
Taper Fit Magnets
The magnets are in fact the most expensive part of the generator and are fundamental to the long term performance. Low cost magnets loose magnetism over time - often quite quickly - so the performance of the generator is reduced. Hymoto Energever specify the very best quality sintered magnets to ensure no loss of magnetism and consequential reduction of the generator performance
Powder Coating
Hymoto wind turbines are finished to the highest possible standard with powder coating in white as standard. Turbines can be supplied in a powder coating to any other pantone colour to special order – please ask for details
